Produced, directed and devised by Just The Lads theatre company. First presented in the MART, Rathmines, Dublin as part of Dublin Fringe Festival September 2013. The venue is an old fire station which we caught just before the building was converted into artists studios, and transformed 6 spaces in the venue with visual, set and sound design. After a sold out first run, it was reworked and staged on again in November 2014 with support from Dublin City Council and An Post.
My role was as composer and sound designer, although I was present for the complete devising process, in which each member of the cast and crew had an input. Musically, my aim here was to produce a fully integrated sound world that used the textures and sounds of the ‘post office’ world. I editted and used field recordings made by the directors during the research process to create sound design, and wrote music that I could teach to the actors who were mainly non-musicians and which would use the props and objects in the set design as instruments.
The ‘Waiting Room’ track was used as part of an installation piece which comprised one of the rooms.
